life transitions -
birth - life cycles - death/rebirth
My way into the wisdom of transitions....
As we live life on the planet, we all experience life changing, cycles are changing, we grow, people we love grow, people we know are being born and some die. Transitions are some of the most basic and fundamental elements of life on earth- and still, many modern societies have lost and forgotten the wisdom for these transitions.
In the Saami culture, as well as all cultures around the world, the eyemothers/wise women held space for all these life affirming traditions, as conceptions, birth, childhood, from child to adult, marriage and death.
These women were everyday women, but also wellknown medicine keepers, guided by nature and the feminine wisdom. The shamans, in the Saami culture the noaide, would also be wisdom keepers in the community, holding space for transitions, changes in society, relationships between tribes and the cosmic forces. And these were all connected and working together, understanding how practical life was a spiritual thing, and spiritual life was practical life aswell.
In the last 30 years, there has been a great shift in our world, and especially the awakening of the spiritual aspect of life. The blooming of shamanic traditions and rights, the flowering of nature medicine and the respect for Mother Earth and the feminine wisdom. And luckily, science and energy medicine begin to co-create in a new way, creating a broader and more expansive field of new healing and wisdom teachings.
Since I was a very young child, I knew that the wisdom teaching about transitions both in nature and in humans had something to do with my spirit, but I didn`t know how. I was also scared of these massive forces of life and death, especially since the first death I faced was a young child in my community.
The void and the pain this left in the family and friends were of course massive, but I felt that the most painful of it was the silence - and I had to direct all my questions to nature and the estoreric. As I have grown, become a mother and a therapist, I have been asked to be a witness to births and deaths processes. I have experienced giving birth, and also saying goodbye to loved ones many times these past years. And what I have come to see, is that there are common threads of these transitions. It is not one known path, as every birth process is unique and every death/rebirth process is unique, but they have some patterns and rhythms that are simular.
The old tradtions in the east and south america have described this in many different ways, but I have allowed every process to be my teacher. I hold space to be best of my capasity with every person without any theory or plan - it is a mystery and I treat it that way. I have assisted people as they were going through transitions without linking it to my profession. I have done it as an act of gratefulness to all the wisdom keepers that had taken care of me through out my life.

In 2019 I said yes to talk about my understanding about transitions publically for the first time as I was asked by my dear collegue Siri Kalla. She hosted her New Story Hub in Oslo, and we talked together about the cycles of life - and especially focusing on wintertime in the annual calendar, and the meaning of death/rebirth in that aspect. To my big surprice, there were a full room of people on a Friday night -many people who would rather talk about the death/rebirth wisdom than going to a party. That was amazing to me. And the people, most of them under 45, had so many wise thoughts and sharings from their own experience, and it sparked a fire in me - these are exciting times.
And then came late winter of 2019, we did our icebath/moonceremonies with people as a way of embracing our darkness, facing our shadows and fears with love and compassion. We were together in silence and introverted vision. And then we shifted into 2020, and then came all the changes that we are facing at the moment. I am thinking about this event and the sharings that we had in the New Story Hub. Important, and maybe even more needed now than just a couple of months back.
So, I will host more of these circles where we open up the space for this transitions understanding and wisdom, the death/rebirth aspect as we maybe can also feel the illusion in the concept of death - and by this also open up to a broader and more bold experience of life.
